Telecom Equipment Manufacturing Association (TEMA) is concerned with the plight of mobile users, suffering from the Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC) and supports TRAI’s initiative on the issue. TEMA demands a 100 % freeze on UCC for wanted / Unwanted customers. We urge TRAI, TSP's, ISP's and telemarketers to plan and implement a solution jointly to curb this menace of pesky calls. Telecom vendors' association TEMA has sought Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad's intervention in getting Rs 3,000 crore dues from BSNL, even despite the state-run firm has been reminded by suppliers and manufacturers several times. Telecommunication Engineering Center (TEC), the technical wing of the telecom department, on Tuesday started issuing certificate to telecom equipment makers after testing their products in government certified laboratories set up in the country. The certificates have been issued after a delay of about six years. The government had first set October 1, 2013 as deadline for scrutiny of all telecom products and equipment to be sold in the country to check espionage through malwares. Global telecom vendors such as Ericsson, Nokia, ZTE and Huawei are likely to oppose the telecom department’s diktat to run mandatory safety checks on imported network gear from October 1 via local labs, saying it will only result in duplication of certification activity, disrupting network gear availability in India and delaying 4G network rollouts by at least 6-to-9 months. "TEMA has been demanding mandatory testing since 2010 and that the Government of India as far as back on November 30, 2012 recognised security threat from China telecom equipments and decided that from April 1, 2013 the certification shall be done by only recognized labs/agencies in India," TEMA added. The Department of Telecomunications (DoT) engineering wing has notified some telecom products to be put under mandatory testing regime under phase - II starting October 1, 2020. The Telecom Department has notified mandatory testing and certification for additional range of products, used in telecom and data networks, from October 1, 2020. Transmission Terminal Equipment (including multiplexing equipment), PON (passive optical network) family of broadband equipment, and feedback device are the products which have been notified under the second phase of Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipment (MTCTE) regime. The Telecommunications Engineering Centre (TEC) has issued a notification for an additional range of products, used in telecom and data networks on June 23, 2020 on mandatory testing and certification of telecom equipment (MTCTE).
